But at the end of the day an nft lock should only be used to secure an asset in a central wallet for gameplay or reward systems through the contract it's being used for. And that contract better be fool proof

Though, what's the reason for locking NFT? It's possible to make NFT notify central contract about its transfer so that it sends part of reward to the current owner.

It happens alot with those that run multiple accounts to game. They will transfer asset from account to account in order to gain reward benefits. If you lock assets for a time period in an account you now can delegate based on said account with out fear of abusive players
But as i said before a "soft stake" only requires the asset contract and a wallet check to confirm if they have it. If not then remove cell
